Community Conversation with Modern Times Theater

  • Congress Square Park Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Join Modern Times Theater for a conversation about community building, busking, and outdoor shows for puppeteers!

Following the free 4:00 PM performance of Modern Times Theater’s The Perils of Mr. Punch, Friends of Congress Square Park will facilitate a 30-minute discussion with Rose Friedman and Justin Lander, Co-founders of Modern Times Theater.

Performing artists and community builders from all disciplines are also invited to join the conversation.

When they’re not on tour, Modern Times Theater employs their creative talents to foster connection in their small hometown in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.

The Hardwick Midway Project, as one example, brings community members together to hand-build a retro carnival replete with games, carnival barkers, and fortune tellers in an annual event, “created by and for Hardwickians.” Modern Times’ artists collaboratively design games with students from Hazen Union High School. Through a series of open workshops at the Highland Center for the Arts, local residents help to build the games, make them beautiful and spectacular, and learn to run/perform them on the day of the event.
